Why I Decided Against a Weight Loss 7 Day Fast

Earlier this year, I started to look into a weight loss 7 day fast.  Fasting has become such a hot topic that I’ve been looking into a lot of its forms to see if any of them will benefit me.  This was not an easy process!  There is an awful lot written about the subject online, but not a lot of conclusive evidence is presented with every claim.

Why a Weight Loss 7 Day Fast Appealed to Me

I know that short-term fasting like a weight loss 7 day fast has been sliding out of popularity over the last while. It’s intermittent fasting that has become the new fad in this category.  That said, I just can’t see myself sticking to something like that over the long term.  In fact, I can’t see myself doing it for more than a week or two.

As a result, my strategy was to try to go for something I’d likely see to the end and then move on from there.  That’s where I started to see the flaw in my plan.  What exactly did moving on after this type of short-term challenge actually mean? How did I plan to benefit from that weight loss fast for 7 days over the long term?

Why I Changed My Mind

The more I thought about it, the more I could see that going through a weight loss fast for 7 days didn’t have much to offer me.  It would be something extreme and uncomfortable.  It would come with a number of unpleasant and unwanted side effects. When all was said and done, the odds are that I would lose a pound or two of fat and the rest would all be water weight.

Then, after returning to normal eating, I’d rehydrate and gain most or all the lost water weight.  From there, I’d likely eat strangely.  I’d either overeat because I was so glad the fast was over that I’d be ready to celebrate, or I’d feel sick from eating too much and need to ease back into eating normally.  In either case, I could probably count on an unwanted impact on my metabolic rate.  I’d place myself at risk of not only gaining back the pounds of fat I’d lost, but potentially facing a greater struggle in losing additional pounds.

Throughout all this, I’ve been cautioned that this type of lengthy fasting places strain on the body and its organs and systems.  So, after all was said and done, it doesn’t look like any kind of fasting is right for me, including a weight loss 7 day fast.
