Fat-Fighting Autumn Foods

by | Oct 4, 2019 | Dieting Tricks | 0 comments

If you are looking to lose weight and are trying to get your eating habits under control, then you may want to consider specific fat-fighting autumn foods that will be locally available and taste great at this time of year. Combine them in a healthy diet with a well decided exercise plan, and you should have a fat burning recipe for success!

Fat Fighting Autumn Foods Taste Great at This Time of Year!

When it’s super-hot outside, the last thing that might appeal to you is a heavy squash based dish.  You’re too busy enjoying the cool crispness of melons and berries that are in season during the summertime.  However, when the fall comes around, there is a whole new list of fat fighting autumn foods that taste great as the weather cools down.

Even better, since these foods are in season closer to where you live, you’ll be able to enjoy far better nutrition.  Mother nature knows what she’s doing when she selects the foods that will be ripe at various times of the year.  The best fresh fruits and vegetables for your taste buds are usually the ones that will help you to gain the most nutrition and weight loss support, too.

Which Fat Fighting Autumn Foods Should You Choose?

There are many fat-fighting autumn foods that make great treats that also help you fight excess weight. Consider oatmeal for breakfast – this warm food (the unsweetened oatmeal) slowly digests and helps reduce your desire for foods high in fat. It also helps stabilize blood sugar levels, so you get added health benefits in addition to burning fat.

When you face the choice of frying your food in fat, or frying your food in olive oil, opt for the olive oil. Not only does it add a rich flavor to your palette, it also contains the healthy kind of fat (since your body still requires some fat to function, don’t cut this entirely from your diet) and can help keep your blood pressure low. Sautéed onions or garlic added to olive oil make a tasty frying combination, and they also help break down fat and keep you healthy.

Instead of starchy baked potatoes, consider sweet potatoes that are high in fiber and avoid the increased amount of insulin after a meal that normally signals the body to store fat. Sweet potatoes also taste good as fries. Try baking them with a light sprinkling of olive oil.

Squashed Flavor

If you think you don’t like squash, think again.  You’re likely just thinking of the standard butternut squash.  While that is a fantastic option among fat fighting autumn foods, there are many more from which to choose if you aren’t a fan of butternut.

Consider spaghetti squash, for instance, if you want a fascinating noodle-like texture that you can eat with a sauce.  You might try an acorn or carnival squash if you like something rich and a touch sweet.  Those latter options can be sweetened into a fantastic dessert with a tiny amount of butter and a drizzling of maple syrup!

Mashed potato squash.  This stark white option is very low in flavor and will take on the flavors of other foods or sauces.  Cook it and mash it the same way you would with potatoes and you’ll enjoy a far more nutritious mash with all the tastes you enjoy!

Something Sweet

When it comes to dessert, consider something with cinnamon. Cinnamon helps the body to metabolize sugar more efficiently, and it certainly adds flavor to many different recipes – desserts or otherwise. Consider baking your favorite apple with a bit of cinnamon dusted onto it and you’ll have a treat that tastes like pie, but with a fraction of the calories and all the best nutritional components.

Baking an apple is extremely easy.  Just core an apple and dust the inside of the hole with cinnamon.  Set it onto a baking sheet and pop it in the oven until it cooks through to the level of softness that you prefer.  Some people like a bit of crunch left behind while others like them baked until they’re practically apple sauce.

The result is surprisingly sweet, with the cinnamon spiciness that tastes fantastic at this time of year. Even better, your home will naturally smell fantastic without the need for artificial fragrances! This makes baked apples one of the best fat fighting autumn foods for many reasons!

Final Thoughts

There are many types of fun fat-fighting autumn foods that can help you burn fat and lose weight; you just have to implement them into your daily meals and make sure to keep portions small. Add an exercise routine to it, and you will be on your way to a healthier you. Just remember, though, that when in doubt, ask a doctor about your weight loss plan. They may be able to help you craft a more efficient plan than if you created one entirely on your own. But if nothing else, with these foods you are off to a potentially great start.

What is Nutritional Psychology? Can It Help Weight Control?

Nutritional psychology is a subject I stumbled upon on social media – of all places – and that sent me into a massive online rabbit hole to better understand what it’s all about. Keeping in mind that even with all my best googling, I’m still eons from becoming an expert, I still thought this topic was fascinating enough that I wanted to share it.

Daily Sugary Drinks of All Kinds Lower Your Life Expectancy

I just read about the scariest study that now says that drinking sugary drinks on a daily basis can actually shorten your life.  The horrifying thing about it is that I have always joked that a certain giant pop or gas station slushy or other syrup-based beverage was likely cutting a day off my life.

The 2021 Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen Lists for Fruits and Vegetables

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about research suggesting organic foods might help prevent weight gain, so this week seemed like a natural jump into the 2021 Dirty Dozen list.  The reason is that while I’m taking organic foods far more seriously as a part of my shopping list, I wanted to know if I should just get some organics or try to eat only organics.
