Can You Lose Weight by Drinking 2 Glasses of Wine at Bedtime?

Wine at bedtime may be able to help you lose weight. If you’d rather relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite cabernet sauvignon than hit the gym, then you’re going to love the results of not one but two recent weight loss studies that have now been published.

The first was from Washington State University researchers and the second was from a team at Harvard Medical School.

What the scientists discovered was that drinking a couple glasses of wine at bedtime could potentially give your body a better chance to be able to burn fat that has already been stored. The idea behind the research is that resveratrol, a polyphenol that is present in red wine (and that is not also present in white wine) may have an impact on white fat, converting it into beige fat instead.

What does this mean? It sounds like it has just been a color change and not resulted in weight loss, right? While that is somewhat true (although there is more of a difference between white and beige fat than just the color) what is important to note about the fact that white fat is transformed into beige is that the body finds beige fat easier to burn. This according to the Washington State University researchers.

What makes that information even more awesome was that the scientists from Harvard Medical School looked at the data from 20,000 women over a period of 13 years and found that those who drank an average of two glasses of red wine every day had a likelihood of being overweight that was 70 percent lower than those who did not drink 2 glasses of red wine every day. That is a considerable difference.

Researchers are now starting to consider the timing in which the wine is being consumed. One study that was conducted on bees showed that resveratrol helped to suppress their appetites. While this is far from being the same as being tested on humans, if it is shown to work in this way, as well, it could mean that dieters who have a struggle with late night eating might be able to stop themselves from heading to the fridge before – or even after – heading to bed at night. At the same time, the resveratrol is working inside their bodies in order to convert the white fat into beige.

So the idea is that it may soon be proven that you’ll be able to drink wine at bedtime to avoid late night snacks and arm your body for improved fat burning the next day.

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

I like to think that I’m making some healthy food choices, for the most part. I know my diet isn’t perfect. I don’t even aim for perfect. I’d have to give up too much of my favorite treats to get to that point. I don’t even think that focusing too much on nutrition is great for your overall wellbeing. A bit of fun has its place now and then. That said, according to this new study I’ve read, we Americans think we’re doing far better than we are, and it’s really holding us back!

What Exactly is a Calorie Deficit for Weight Loss?

What Exactly is a Calorie Deficit for Weight Loss?

I’d heard about the need for a calorie deficit about a million times before I actually looked into what it was. Now, I understand that the name pretty much explains what it is. I got it on the most basic level. If I wanted to lose weight, I needed to burn more calories than I was taking in. That said, when it comes to putting things into practice, the situation became less obvious to me. I admit that it took freaking forever for me to actually look it up.

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and dehydration pretty much go hand-in-hand during the summer months. As someone who has taken up running relatively recently and is facing her first summer with the sport, this is very new to me, though not unexpected. That said, as I’ve been researching, I’ve also discovered that the combination, while brutal, isn’t exactly what many of us assume it is, particularly when it comes to difficulty level.
