Nobody likes having a double chin. There are people who hate them, people who don’t like them, people who tolerate them, but there certainly aren’t many people who actually strive to gain and maintain them! That said, you don’t need to simply accept that you have one. There are many things that you can do to help to reduce or even eliminate yours.
The first thing that you will need to do is to work on making sure that your weight is in a healthy zone. Like other parts of your body, your chin and neck will gain fat, the heavier you are. How much you gain in that area depends on a number of things, primarily genetics, just as your genetics determine how much weight you will carry around your middle, your hips, your thighs, your rear end, your arms, or anywhere else on your body.
Therefore, by eating a nutritious diet that is high in fiber and that keeps within a balanced number of calories, you’ll help to bring your overall weight down, including in your chin. Next, start exercising. This doesn’t necessarily mean in your neck area. There isn’t a single workout that will help you to lose weight in a specific part of your body. You can build muscle in a specific part of your body but when it comes to burning fat, that happens in an overall way. So start becoming active and you’ll bring your overall body fat level down, including your chin.
Once you have your diet and exercise underway, make sure that you are getting enough water. Hydration helps you to lose weight, be healthier, feel better, and it also improves elasticity in your skin. The better the elasticity, the less likely your skin is to bag and sag. You’ll also reduce swelling which can also decrease the look of a double chin.
Take care of your skin. You likely moisturize your face, so be sure to gently moisturize your neck, too. This also helps to improve the health and elasticity of your skin.
The FDA has also recently approved a drug called Kybella. That one uses injections to help to remove double chins. For people who have double chins that seem to want to stick around no matter how well you treat your body, there is this additional option that is going to be available on the market in the not too distant future.
As is the case with any prescription drug, it is best to try to leave that option to a last resort. After all, it may be possible for you to reduce your double chin without having to use chemicals injected into your body to dissolve the fat under your skin.
