Super Simple Healthy Eating: Prep and Freeze Food in Advance

by | Aug 3, 2016 | Fantastic Food | 0 comments

Changing the way you eat in order to be able to lose weight more effectively often means that you need to work more fresh fruits and veggies into your diet. Simple healthy eating is a real necessity.

The problem that most of us have with any healthy eating strategy isn’t that we don’t necessarily like fresh fruits and veggies. After all, there are tons of them, so there are bound to be options we enjoy. It’s the fact that they take so much time to prepare.

Sure, we might have that time on the weekend, but the rest of the week can be very busy and the last thing we want to do is spend our precious few moments of free time standing in the kitchen and chopping up food.

Sometimes we can get the motivation to do that over the short term, but continuing to do that over the longer term is another matter. Slowly, and then more quickly, our old habits creep back into our lives because simple healthy eating habits elude us. After all, those old ways are far more convenient. That’s how they got to be our old habits in the first place!

However, if you know you want to eat more fruits and veggies, then the key is to chop it up in quantities and freeze it right away. That way, you can prep for several meals at a time without sacrificing the nutrition from having fresh produce in your meals.

Furthermore, once you’ve chopped everything up and it’s ready to use, you’ll find it much more appealing than many of the other frozen meals on which you used to rely.

To do this simple healthy eating plan, you just need to know how to flash freeze your produce so all the pieces will be individually frozen and usable instead of one giant lump of ice. As soon as you cut up any fruit or veggie that you want to save, lay the pieces out on a baking sheet or tray. Put it in the freezer. In this way, it doesn’t take long to freeze. Once it’s fully frozen, just dump it into airtight freezer bags or containers. Make each container the perfect size for a meal or a portion – whichever makes sense to that fruit or veggie.

With all this food prepared, you’ll be able to take it out of the freezer and use it right away. All your prep work is done for you! If you like smoothies in the morning, you can just take out a packet of your favorite melon or chopped berries and pour it into the blender. No stems need to be removed. No seeds need to be picked out. Nothing needs to be chopped. It’s already done!

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

I like to think that I’m making some healthy food choices, for the most part. I know my diet isn’t perfect. I don’t even aim for perfect. I’d have to give up too much of my favorite treats to get to that point. I don’t even think that focusing too much on nutrition is great for your overall wellbeing. A bit of fun has its place now and then. That said, according to this new study I’ve read, we Americans think we’re doing far better than we are, and it’s really holding us back!

What Exactly is a Calorie Deficit for Weight Loss?

I’d heard about the need for a calorie deficit about a million times before I actually looked into what it was. Now, I understand that the name pretty much explains what it is. I got it on the most basic level. If I wanted to lose weight, I needed to burn more calories than I was taking in. That said, when it comes to putting things into practice, the situation became less obvious to me. I admit that it took freaking forever for me to actually look it up.

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and dehydration pretty much go hand-in-hand during the summer months. As someone who has taken up running relatively recently and is facing her first summer with the sport, this is very new to me, though not unexpected. That said, as I’ve been researching, I’ve also discovered that the combination, while brutal, isn’t exactly what many of us assume it is, particularly when it comes to difficulty level.
