It’s hard to keep the weight off. Having to stick to a diet stinks. What’s even worse than being on a diet is going on a diet a second, third or fourth time because the weight has come back on again. Fortunately, it doesn’t need to be this way.
The following are some of the top tricks that can help you to keep the weight off:
• Before you start your next weight loss strategy – remind yourself that you aren’t a fat person. You are a person who has fat on their body. You want to lose weight because you want to reach a goal, just as you would if you were training for a marathon, learning a new language or building a new relationship. These are all things that take time, commitment and the willingness to make some changes in your life. Take on this new perspective about weight loss before you even begin.
• Understand how your lifestyle must change – this doesn’t mean that you need to come up with an eating and exercising strategy. Instead, it means that you need to understand which specific behaviors have led you to gain the weight in the first place and then know exactly how you’ll be able to overcome them so they will not be able to take control once again after you’ve lost the excess pounds.
• Learn to love exercise – if you dread the thought of going to the gym, you’re miserable when you’re there, and you feel awful when you leave, then you’re not exercising the right way. There are activities out there that you will love. The trick is to find them. Start trying out some new activities or go back to some old ones you used to enjoy but haven’t done in a long time. Keep up with several of them so you won’t get bored of them. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
• Embrace mild hunger – one of the main struggles we create for ourselves is the fact that we immediately react to our hunger. A little bit of hunger isn’t bad and when you face it with the right attitude, it isn’t even uncomfortable. It’s just normal. If you have a mild amount of hunger, treat it with a very light snack instead of feeding yourself an entire meal at the first hint of a grumble in your belly.
• Understand your food – not all calories, carbs, proteins or fats are created equal. Allow yourself to gradually learn about your food and the way it functions within your body. This will help you to make much smarter choices over time, so you can finally keep the weight off permanently.
