Dieting Tricks You Love but do More Harm than Good

by | Jun 30, 2015 | Dieting Tricks | 0 comments

Dieting tricks are fantastic for helping to get the most out of every little effort along the road to weight loss. Unfortunately, not all dieting tricks are created equal and some of them appear to be a great solution to a frustrating struggle, but could actually be making things worse for you. It is important to look into your weight loss strategies before you take them on because the last thing that you want to do is work as hard as you can while simultaneously holding yourself back.

The following are some of the most beloved dieting tricks that are actually more harmful than helpful:

Diet soda pop – choosing diet soft drinks may seem as though it is a great way to enjoy those sweet tasting fizzy beverages that we love, but without the massive number of calories from their high sugar levels, but contrary to that logic, there is a rapidly growing body of evidence that is showing that not only is diet soda not better for weight loss than original recipes, but it could actually cause harm to the body’s ability to lose weight. The artificial sweeteners can cause a number of different unwanted effects in your body that will only make it tougher for you to stay on track and lose the fat.

Skipping meals – another dieting trick that seems to make seems but doesn’t work is in the form of skipping meals. It could seem like this is an automatic way to slash up to a third of the daily calories but this often backfires. It can slow down the metabolism so that the body burns fewer calories as a whole, and it can make you more likely to eat larger amounts of fattier or more sugary food later on in the day.

Fat-free dieting – low fat and fat free foods were designed by manufacturers to help to get on board with the antiquated trend of reducing fat intake to lose weight. However, in order to replace the flavor from the fat, they typically add more salt and sugar, resulting in a food that is often higher in calories and even worse for your health.

Overall, you need to remind yourself that the best way to lose weight is the healthy way. Instead of trying to take on short term habits like skipping meals, or simply cheating with foods by choosing diet or low fat alternatives to junk foods, it’s a far better idea to eat a healthful diet, enjoy your occasional treats, and keep active on a regular basis.

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

Most of Us Think we’re Making Far Better Healthy Food Choices Than We Are

I like to think that I’m making some healthy food choices, for the most part. I know my diet isn’t perfect. I don’t even aim for perfect. I’d have to give up too much of my favorite treats to get to that point. I don’t even think that focusing too much on nutrition is great for your overall wellbeing. A bit of fun has its place now and then. That said, according to this new study I’ve read, we Americans think we’re doing far better than we are, and it’s really holding us back!

What Exactly is a Calorie Deficit for Weight Loss?

What Exactly is a Calorie Deficit for Weight Loss?

I’d heard about the need for a calorie deficit about a million times before I actually looked into what it was. Now, I understand that the name pretty much explains what it is. I got it on the most basic level. If I wanted to lose weight, I needed to burn more calories than I was taking in. That said, when it comes to putting things into practice, the situation became less obvious to me. I admit that it took freaking forever for me to actually look it up.

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and Dehydration: A Brutal Combination

Running and dehydration pretty much go hand-in-hand during the summer months. As someone who has taken up running relatively recently and is facing her first summer with the sport, this is very new to me, though not unexpected. That said, as I’ve been researching, I’ve also discovered that the combination, while brutal, isn’t exactly what many of us assume it is, particularly when it comes to difficulty level.
